After a short lull in the Western Canada and Canadian Rally Championships, the action is back with the 2nd round of both, the 2012 Subaru Calgary Rocky Mountain Rally, taking place May 25-26th. Teams will battle it out over 184km of stage in Kananaskis Country outside of Calgary, Alberta for top honours.
The 2012 Cochrane Image Auto Body Winter Rally was the opportunity Hardy Schmidtke had been waiting for to get some valuable seat time in his new Mitsubishi Evo 9.
During the off season, Schmidtke decided to make a change to Mitsubishi and bought the Evo from RKT Motors out of New York. "The challenge is to learn the car as quickly as possible, it's different for sure, last weekend John and I got out to test day and did a few laps of the forest loop, that was good but it doesn't compare to race conditions on stage" said Schmidtke.
The Western Canada Rally Championship is gearing up for it's opening round of the season, the 2012 Cochrane Image Auto Body Winter Rally. Put on by organizer John Blaber, the first of six events in the region is sure to be action packed!
2011 champion Max Riddle will be back, starting where he left off the previous season fighting for the top podium spot. Longtime front runner (and WCRC champion for three years running from 2008-2010) Hardy Schmitdke has changed gears for the season, switching from running his open class Subaru to a US prepared open class Mitsubishi Evolution 9.
